Frequently Asked Questions
For most of the team, the Swim Season begins the Sunday after Labor Day with our Parent Meeting, and practices begin the next day. We swim until the Thursday before Memorial Day. There are two week-long breaks scheduled in December and April that vary with the different school districts represented. Our top group Senior group swims year-round with a break in August.
Meets occur on the weekends and come in several forms. From October through January, we have YMCA Only Dual, or Tri meets. We compete in USA Swimming Meets that can be two to four days broken into sessions by age group. We also are a part of the New Jersey YMCA Swimming Association, which has a Championship Season. We participate in; The 8 & Under State Championships, Bronze Championships (Ages 9-18), Silver State Championships (Ages 9-18), and both 12 & Under and 13 & Over State YMCA Championships. Also, in February and March, we swim in the Middle Atlantic Junior Olympics and Middle Atlantic Silver Championships. Our top-level swimmers also compete at YMCA Nationals and USA Swimming Junior and Senior Nationals.
Please look under the Practice Information tab for the precise practice schedule for each group. We do not have a mandatory practice attendance policy for any group.
Yes. This is a Competitive Team. The YMCA has other options including group and private lessons to help your child obtain the skills to join Phoenix.
Every member of MLY Phoenix must also be a Full Facility member of the YMCA. Please talk to any of our membership representatives at the front desk to find the best value for your family. Phoenix also requires a $200.00 deposit to secure your roster spot and defray costs of YMCA and USA Registration. Each program also has a fee that varies by the amount of pool time. These "program" fees are broken down into eight monthly payments from October through May.
